We have idiot for the week, because it's Friday, but how about a non-idiot to kick things off?
Barack did an outrageous and illegal thing today, two American citizens are dead on his orders. At best, they were suspects. They were never convicted of anything, never was any evidence produced in a court of law. But he ordered their executions.
So they were killed by predator drones. At POLITICO, you've got people weighing in . . . about whether or not it was a brilliant move. Legality and humanity escapes the clowns. All but one. This is Dean Baker:
It might seem rude to ask such questions, but is it now U.S. policy that the government can kill U.S. citizens, who are not immediately in the process of attacking the U.S. (i.e. not engaged in a firefight) any time they leave the country? In other words, there was no judicial procedure whereby Anwar al-Awlaki was determined to have committed crimes warranting the death penalty. So, do we now give the president the authority to have any of us killed if we leave the country, and if not, what is the procedure whereby it is determined who gets killed?Good for Dean Baker.
Idiot of the week? I'll go with Melissa Harris Perry just because she's such a damn liar. Here's Glen Ford providing a sublime takedown of Lie Face.
She's an idiot. But good for Dean Baker and also good for Ron Paul.
Here's C.I.'s "Iraq snapshot:"
