That's the point of this Politico story. They miss the point. But it's the point. From their story:
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid warned Tuesday he’s willing to bring the Senate back after Christmas to resolve unfinished business in the lame-duck session.
“I hate to report all this to you, but there’s still Congress after Christmas,” the Nevada Democrat told reporters. “So if Republicans think because they can stall and stall and stall and if we take a break, we’re through -- we're not through. Congress ends on Jan. 4, so we’re going to continue working on this stuff until we get it done.”
So Reid wants to work a little more, what's the problem?
Now that they've suffered losses, Reid wants to work. Before that? Not a damn bit of work.
Have you forgotten how quickly he (and others) cleared out of town before the elections. What did they need? Four weeks off to campaign?
Having saved his own ass, now Harry's making noises about working. Now.
It's too late and if the Senate had any brains, they would've kicked Reid to the curb and installed Durbin, Levin or even John Kerry as their chair.
