The series stars Rob Schneider as Rob who marries Mexican-American Maggie (Claudia Bassols). She loves him. Her family? Not so much. Cheech Marin plays her father Fernando, Diana Maria Riva plays her mother Rosa, Eugenio Derbez plays Rosa's brother Hector.
The family thinks Maggie could have done better. And there's probably a 15 year (at least) age difference between Rob and Maggie (which her parents notice) but she really loves him and he loves her.
Fernando and Rob end up bonding a little when Rob's father (played by Fred Ward) comes to visit and completely ignores Rob. That's how Fernando was treated by Rosa's parents so, he tells Rob, he just waited for them to die.
This is a better show than many of CBS' offerings. It's lacking something. I'm not sure what. But it needs some flair that just isn't there yet.
It's a funny show though.
And I'm not a Rob Schnieder fan. I don't dislike him, but I don't go see his movies. So I really did think he'd be annoying. Instead, he's really good and makes for a strong lead.
I know Rita Moreno's playing Fran's mother on Happily Ever Divorced but they need someone with her kind of delivery added to the cast. She would take this show to another level. Hector almost does but they always back away just when he gets going.
