I'm sick of it too. We were watching Happy Feet and went to change the DVD. On her TV, when the DVD stops playing, it switches from monitor to TV and that's how we saw the election on TV. At her school, the adults spent most of the day talking and she's made it clear she's sick of it.
Elaine and I don't talk about it to her unless she asks. We agreed that was the best because we are both very passionate about War Hawk Liars. So if she asks, we share basics. If she asks what we think, we give very soft opinions. And we make it clear throughout that life goes on regardless of who wins or loses.
I hope you read Betty's post Friday about the little 4-year-old girl whose mother turned her into a media sensation last week. As Betty points out, if the child is not exposed to TV (the family does not watch) and just hears NPR, why is she so crazed that she's crying and taking Barack's side?
Because the parents haven't been parents and have been discussing their thoughts in front of her probably including that if Barack doesn't win, it's the end of the world.
So other topics. Did you catch this "Nicole Kidman: ‘Eyes Wide Shut’ Didn’t End Marriage to Tom Cruise"?
To which I reply, "Really? Did you see the movie, Nicole?"
That movie sucked. That movie is the definition of sucked.
Nicole's only in it for about 15 minutes. She's the best thing about the movie. Jennifer Jason Leigh was in the film but they cut her footage and reshot with a different actress.
They needed a Jennifer Jason Leigh.
Tom Cruise as a tourist in the world of sex?
There's never been a more boring film.
I like Nicole. She's a good actress. Even in the Cactus Flower remake with Jennifer Aniston and Adam Sandler. I'm forgetting the title. But she was a complete surprise -- being in it -- and she was very, very funny.
My favorite Nicole films?
I'll give my top five.
I hope that's the name of the new one. I loved it.
2) Dead Calm
Billy Zane is a psycho who terrorizes Nicole and her husband on the high seas.
3) The Hours
Nicole won the Oscar for this one. She's my favorite part of the film.
Spoiler: Nicole is evil!!!! She's married to Bill Pullman. Anne Bancroft and Alec Baldwin are incredible but Nicole holds the whole thing together. Full of surprises and, yes, malice!
5) To Die For
I love her as Suzanne. Every thing about this film is perfect. Every role is cast correctly, this is a great movie. I should probably move it up to number two and everything starting with Dead Calm down a notch. I love the ending that involves ice skating over something.
And there are many other films of hers I love (The Invasion!) but I hate Eyes Wide Shut. In fact, I hate all three of the films she made with Tom Cruise (Days of Thunder and Far and Away being the other two). The three with Cruise are the worst films she made in America. (I say "in America" because she was in something called Flirting that I never saw.) She's a great actress -- and without Tom Cruise as a co-star, she's made some great films.
Here's C.I.'s "Iraq snapshot:"
