Okay, I hated this NPR All Things Considered story. Why? It's a story about student loans, about people not being able to pay them. Where are those people?
This story was all about 'those awful defaulters.' You heard everyone's opinion except for the man or woman working an awful job in a bad economy and struggling to make ends meet while his/her paycheck sees a $150 deduction each pay period as his/her wages are garnished by the government. For my older brother, it was even worse. There were several student loans garnishing his wages. He worked full time and may as well have stopped because his check was so small.
Why is it they never propose that when the economy tanks and unemployment soars, they put a freeze on the student loans and don't make people pay?
Probably because that's something that actually would help people.
Have a great weekend. Here's C.I.'s "Iraq snapshot:"
