Let's do idiot of the week, okay?
Barack's started another war. On Libya. And some people should be really embarrassed. I doubt Rebecca Solnit has the sense to be embarrassed but Linh Dinh (Dissident Voice) reminds of what Solnit was slobbering not all that long ago:
If this is Obama pacified, I hate to see him riled up, but, of course, he doesn’t get riled up. Suave, articulate and personable, Obama is proving to be just as deadly as Bush, but clearly more cynical. A great, loyal tool of the establishment, Obama has dampened protest from American liberals. Though they know he has betrayed them, they’re reluctant to show appropriate outrage because, not that long ago, they have cheered and wept for him so openly. The day after Obama won, Rebecca Solnit burbled in the Nation, “Citizenship is a passionate joy at times, and this is one of those times. You can feel it. Tuesday the world changed. It was a great day.”She should be ashamed.
And it's that kid of worship that allowed so many of us to step away. We saw where this road led and we wanted no part of it.
And you have to lie to be Cult of St. Barack. They've been lying to themselves forever.
A mediocre politician has been treated like the second coming.
That was always going to be a recipe for disaster.
This is Jason Ditz on Barack:
President Obama is surely used to the American public opposing his assorted wars, but the Congressional opposition is something very new. At the moment officials seem to believe they can shrug it off, but as this war drags on, resolutions to defund it will inevitably crop up. When that happens, Congress may, for the first time in a long time, assert itself in the nation’s warmaking beyond being a rubber stamp.
