Okay, Isabelle Belanger (WSWS) reports:
The proposed fiscal year 2012 federal education budget is an escalation of the Obama administration’s war on public education and teachers. The White House is expanding its policy of forcing states to compete for desperately needed funds, insisting that they remove caps on charter schools and attack the living standards and workplace rights of school employees in the name of “cost-effectiveness.”
The overall proposed education budget for FY 2012 is $77.4 billion, including what the White House is celebrating as a “significant increase for K-12 education” and “tough choices,” or rather cuts, “to put the Pell Grant program on a sustainable fiscal path.” The woefully inadequate increase will be distributed through competitive grants and, as the budget proposal states, to fund collaboration with for-profit businesses.A lot of sleezy people are in the news and I don't mean Charlie Sheen. There's Barack Obama and there's John Edwards. Reuters reports he's being compelled to testify about one of his affairs:
The private testimony will come during a deposition set for June 20 as part of a civil suit brought by Hunter against Edwards' former aide, Andrew Young.
Hunter has sued Young and his wife Cheri to force the return of a videotape that allegedly shows Hunter and Edwards having sex. Young says he found the tape while packing boxes in a home near Chapel Hill, North Carolina where Hunter lived with the Youngs for a time.
Speaking of sex -- am I the only one who hears the news about HPV and thinks, "How much do you want to bet a lot of guys are going to use that as an excuse to refuse to go down on women?"
Here's C.I.'s "Iraq snapshot:"
